First you are going to want to select a host. If you are just planning the baby shower and not hosting it; perhaps ask the mom-to-be's parents, siblings, friends or co-workers to host. The mom-to-be may not want to have the trouble of cleaning and preparing food for guests.

I prefer gifting new moms gift cards so it is easy to ship if they are non-local. Plus; they can choose what they need. I preferred gift cards when I was a new mom. They sure came in handy since I had plenty of baby clothes and such.
